Responsible consumption and production, and legal action - Lecture with Arash Derambarsh, winner of the WIN WIN Sustainability Award 2019

Föreläsning

This year's winner of the WIN WIN Gothenburg Sustainability Award is Mr. Arash Derambarsh, a lawyer and city councilor in the city of Courbevoie in France. He will present his work on making the French government to pass a law prohibiting supermarkets and other food outlets to throw away edible food. Thanks to this new law, over 10 million meals are distributed every year to people in need instead of being wasted. This represents a 22% growth in food donations in France.

The work of Mr. Derambarsh challenges the widespread belief that SDG 12 (Responsible production and consumption) can be met with free consumer choice and sustainable business models. Mr. Derambarsh work highlights the need to regulate markets in order to reduce waste as well as minimize resource and energy use. After Mr. Derambarsh¿s lecture he will, together with a panel of researchers and students, discuss legal action as a mean to achieve SDG 12. The audience is encouraged to ask questions.
